A Little About How We Started

Well, hello there!  I’m Brittany! The mom to 2. Nash (6) and Calysta (1.5). Married to my high school sweetheart Aubrey.

I was a Dental Hygienist before having kids. I love the dental industry but let me tell you, it’s a demanding field and unfortunately pretty tough to do when you have kids and a self employed husband.

So, 6 years ago I decided to start my own business…
I started a business making and selling wood products. Small furniture and décor items.
My friend and I went to a paint night one evening and she said “Why don’t you do this – but with signs?!”
I thought, DEAR GOD NO! I could NOT get up in front of people and instruct them like this. Public speaking and being in front of a group back then literally made me want to throw up. (Still does in most situations if I’m being honest). But I thought, I’ll give it a try with a small group of friends. Well, that small group of friends told their friends who told their friends and my first party ended up being around 25 people.
I fumbled my way through and made a lot of mistakes, but everyone left with smile and a sign!

That was the start to something AMAZING. Over the next 3 months I hosted between 3-10 parties a week. The largest party I did was 65 people! I absolutely loved what I was doing and so did a lot of other people.
I had so many people asking me if I was hiring. But logistically I couldn’t figure out how to get them the supplies before each party.
So I worked with a business coach and we came up with a modified Direct Sales (I knoooow, yuck) model where each person would buy a starter kit (with aprons, paints, tape measures, etc) and become their own business within mine.
It was a roller coaster of the best kind! Ups and downs, never a dull moment and SO exciting! By the end of 2019 there were 90 ladies across Canada on our team. We had 3 amazing employees and we all loved it. Andddd then…. COVID hit.

Let me tell you, the next 2 years were tough. I struggled to keep the business going so I could keep my employees going and somehow we managed. I knew to pay the bills I needed to start something else as well until we could have parties again.

So I came up with Canadian Craft Crate. We sell wood blanks for crafters and are in retail stores around Canada and the USA.

Running 2 business was proving difficult so early this year, I made the decision to blend the 2 businesses together. So we now sell supplies and stencils for painting parties through CCC!

That brings us to now…

I thought why not start a group for people wanting to host painting parties so we can share ideas, tips and tricks! I’ve learned a lot over the last 6 years and can’t wait to share it with all of you!  Join the Group here – Sign Parties Canada | Facebook
